Dwayne Johnson’s Future is in Disney’s ‘Tomorrowland’

Dwayne Johnson, who has probably been forbidden by Disney to be even seen near the Tomorrowland section of their theme park.

Variety reports that Dwayne Johnson will star in an action adventure space epic inspired by the Tomorrowland segment of the Disney theme park. Jon Lucas and Scott Moore are writing the script.

Here’s an odd quote from the Variety article:

“Disney denies the film has been titled “Tomorrowland” or is dedicated to the park’s section, a futuristic area of the Magic Kingdom that includes such attractions as Space Mountain. The studio called the nascent project an original script.”

Why would they deny it was named Tomorrowland or is about that section of the park? Isn’t this supposed to be similar to what Disney did with Pirates of the Caribbean–use one of its own, known properties to build a story around to make for easier marketing? Is there still some kind of copyright checking on the name or something weird like that? You know what else I’m wondering about with this? Wasn’t Tomorrowland built like in the 1960s or 1970s and wasn’t it a vision of a sci-fi-ish sort of world that they thought would exist in the 21st century? In other words, are we in Tomorrowland now? My parents have said, with some disappointment, that they thought by the time they got past the year 2000 we’d all be flying around in little spaceships and living in towers in the sky with robots doing housework. Au contraire, Mom and Dad. Then again they grew up in an era of real sci-fi dreaming, so I can understand the disappointment.

So anyway, Tomorrowland, if it’s not about Space Mountain or anything else you might find in Disney’s Tomorrowland, will be a generic space action adventure movie, I guess. Good job, Disney. We need more generic, run of the mill movies.

Dwayen Johnson, who, sadly, I guess we can no longer call the Rock, recently completed Race to Witch Mountain, and is set to start shooting Tooth Fairy soon.
