If you were making a list of history’s greatest muscle men, Hercules would have to be near or at the top of the list. I mean, he did things like choke a lion and fight a hydra (that’s a nine-headed serpent). It’s hard to one up Hercules.
So therefore it only makes sense that if you’re making a movie about Hercules, you’d turn to one of Hollywood’s great strong men and that, according to Deadline, is Dwayne Johnson, the former WWE wrestler known as the Rock (or is it just semi-retired? doesn’t he still do some appearances?). Brett Ratner is directing, which ensures that it will be on time and within budget, and nothing else. Ryan Condal adapted Radical Studios’ graphic novel “Hercules: The Thracian Wars.”
Johnson has a number of movies coming out in 2013–the long-delayed “GI Joe: Retaliation,” the bank truck heist movie “Empire State,” the Michael Bay kidnapping gone wrong movie “Pain and Gain,” and “The Fast and the Furious 6.” He’s got “Ciudad” from the Russo brothers and “Lore” from Barry Sonnenfeld as possible future projects. In other words, get ready for a lot of Dwayne Johnson over the next two years.
