Dwayne Johnson Will Go On “Journey 2: The Mysterious Island”

Dwayne Johnson will find fun and excitement on a mysterious island.

Heat Vision reports that Dwayne Johnson will star in “Journey 2: The Mysterious Island.” Now are you as puzzled as I was when I first read that title? I sat there forever thinking, “Journey 2…What was Journey 1? Did I miss something?” Luckily, I realized that if I actually read the article, and not just the headline, I would find the answer to my question. As it turns out, this is a sequel to “Journey of the Center of the Earth 3D.” So here they worked in the number 2, to remind us that it’s a sequel AND the 2 also doubles as “to” as in “Journey to the Mysterious Island” (okay, just ignore the colon for now).

Johnson will play the boyfriend of the mother of Sean Anderson, the explorer-in-training character played by Josh Hutcherson in the first movie. Hutcherson will return to the role. That makes up for not getting Spider-man. The story, which is loosely based on Jules Verne’s “The Mysterious Island,” sends Hutcherson and Johnson to a “mythical and monstrous island to find his missing grandfather.” More cast members will be added over the next few weeks, with plans to begin filming in North Carolina and Hawaii in late October.

Brad Peyton is directing. You may recall that Brendan Fraser, who starred in “Center of the Earth,” refused to return to the sequel unless “Center’s” director, Eric Brevig, was in charge. Brevig was busy with “Yogi Bear,” though, (yes, Yogi Bear), and couldn’t do it (if the studio even wanted him back; I don’t know about that), so he was out, Fraser was out, and Peyton was in.

And now Johnson is in. Johnson is currently filming “The Fast and the Furious 5″ and has “Faster” hitting theaters in November. He must be very glad this movie isn’t called, “Fastest Journey 2 The Mysterious Island.”
