Down the Rabbit Hole: First Look at Burton’s ‘Alice’

Mia Wasikowska as a very grown-up seeming Alice.
INFDaily has some pictures from the set of Tim Burton’s Alice in Wonderland, currently shooting in Cornwall, England (I’ve spent some time there, it’s lovely). The picture will be a mix of live action and performance capture animation.
Australian actress Mia Wasikowska, best known in the US for her role on the HBO series In Treatment, is playing Alice. Obviously she’s way too old for the character as described in the book–she’s seven years old there. Other stage and film adaptations have used teen or adult actresses dressed to appear about eleven or twelve years old. From these pictures, though, it appears as though Wasikowska, who is apparently eighteen in real life, is playing her real age. So unless she’s playing the character as a young adult, with an animated child version doing the other parts of the story, I guess Burton has bumped the age way up…for some reason that we’ll have to hope is a good one. Trying to trust you, Tim.
Here are a few more pictures:

Well, now we just have to wait for those pictures of Johnny Depp as the Mad Hatter.
