“Don’t Mess With Texas” or with Reese Witherspoon and Sofia Vergara

It seems that Sofia Vergara will go to Texas with Reese Witherspoon.

Deadline tells us that Universal has won an auction for the spec script “Don’t Mess With Texas,” written by John Quaintance and David Feeney, with plans for Reese Witherspoon and Sofia Vergar to star.

Here’s the story: “Pic is a female driven comedy about a cop and a prisoner on the run in Texas, with crooked cops in hot pursuit.” Let me guess, they’re an odd couple–one is buttoned up, one is fun-loving. Sounds like a “Midnight Run” wannabe, with some inspiration from the upcoming “The Heat” with Sandra Bullock and Melissa McCarthy. Though Universal must love the idea of putting Witherspoon back in a comedy, which is where audiences want her.

Witherspoon will next be seen onscreen in “Devil’s Knot.” Vergara has “The Smurfs 2″ and “Machete Kills” coming out later this summer.
