Hey, Hollywood, Saiorse Ronan has an opening in her schedule.
“The Order of the Seven” is no more. The Hollywood Reporter says that Disney has stopped pre-production for the film.
What is (or was) “The Order of the Seven,” you may ask?
Remember when there were three “Snow White” movies in development? There was the one that became “Mirror Mirror,” the soon to open “Snow White and the Huntsman,” and a new version from Disney that would offer a martial arts take on the tale. The Disney version, recognizing that the Snow White market was oversaturated, decided to revamp their movie into an action adventure story about, says THR, “a young woman in 19th century Hong Kong who escapes her wicked stepmother and takes refuge with seven men belonging to an ancient order dedicated to fighting demons and dragons.” Good thing Hong Kong was under British control at the time so they could cast Saiorse Ronan as the young woman!
Reportedly Disney decided the budget was too high for a risky venture like this, especially with a first time director, Michael Gracey, in charge. After a costly debacle like “John Carter,” and the budget fight over “The Lone Ranger,” Disney’s apparently weighing the worth of every penny spent.
This one seemed in trouble from the start. No one needed a third Snow White movie, and even the rewrite still makes it sound much too much like “Snow White and the Huntsman.” I don’t love being on the side of the giant Disney Industrial Complex, but this sounds like a good decision.
