Del Toro Wants To Direct ‘Harry Potter And The Deathly Hallows’

There have been rumours circulating for year that Guillermo del Toro has been asked, and consequentially turned down, the opportunity to direct one of the Harry Potter movies. He himself admits they asked him to take charge of Harry Potter and the Prisoner of Azkaban, the third film of the seven part series.

Although he turned down that chance to concentrate of continuing his Hellboy series, hopes aren’t completely lost that Del Toro may still have a part to play in the Harry Potter universe, with him interested in possibly giving a darker edge to the forthcoming Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows.

He told the MTV Movies Blog:

“I’m definitely interested, now that the movies have grown darker. They have a contrast between the gloomy existence of the kid and the world he’s exposed to. They have evolved into a really nice universe.”

“I got [’Deathly Hallows’] for my daughter and she was like ‘When are you going to give it to me?’ I read it and I was very moved by the ending. It ends very much like a Dickens novel.”

Del Toro is back in the USA apparently making a pitch for the final film in the series. I personally think it would be a perfect combination, with this last film being the perfect story for him to paint his shadowy and murky world all over the franchise.

I can just imagine his take on the final battle between Harry and Voldemort being perfect, and the deaths which take place would be well handled by a director with such a deep imagination, and knowledge of how to get darker material on to our cinema screens.

If anyone from Warner Brothers are reading (which let’s be honest, is unlikely) then please make this happen, as it would be a fitting end to a brilliant set of films, based on a brilliant set of books.
