Well, at least we know Sir Ian is up for two non-3D Hobbit movies.
Thanks to the MTV Movies Blog for having the word from Peter Jackson to refute some rumors that have been going around about the two part adaptation of “The Hobbit” that he is producing. Guillermo del Toro is directing.
Rumor 1: The films will be in 3D. According to MTV, the only truth in this is that supposedly Jackson has shown some interest in filming this way, but del Toro has reportedly said no way. So as of right now, it’s still being filmed on film, not digital. But maybe Jackson might fight for it. We’ll see.
Rumor 2: The two-film version of “The Hobbit” will be followed by a third “bridge” film that will lead up to the beginning of “The Fellowship of the Ring.” Jackson said, no absolutely not for the very prosaic reason that the studio only has the rights to make a two-part film based on “The Hobbit.” However, if something could be worked out, he would not be averse to putting together a third film as there is plenty of material that hasn’t made it into the films.
Rumor 3: Jackson will direct a 3rd film. See above.
There also is this one: ” the dragon character Smaug will be ‘darker than in the book,’” but since that’s certainly not impossible, nor very earthshaking, lets not worry about it.
So those little tidbits are taken care of. When, though, will we get to the real business of these films? Like casting Bilbo Baggins?!!
