Deadpool Sequel in the Works

Ryan Reynold, regrettably with shirt on.

In a surprise to no one, Variety confirms that Deadpool, the character played by Ryan Reynolds in a brief cameo in “X-Men Origins: Wolverine,” will get his own movie.

I’m not an X-Men X-pert, but Variety says that Deadpool is actually in one comic as a mix between a “Shar Pei and Ryan Reynolds.” So I guess this means Deadpool should have a wrinkly face and rock hard abs? Hmm.

For those of you not in the know (like me), Deadpool is “Wade Wilson, a mercenary who, dying of cancer, submits himself to the Weapon X genetic alteration experiment and emerges as an indestructible semi-sane anti-hero.” Everyone always loves an anti-hero.

Other X-Men Wolverine-success fallout includes a “Wolverine” sequel that will feature a samurai storyline that was setup at the end of the first “Wolverine”; a Magneto film, with a script written by Sheldon Turner; and “X-Men: First Class,” currently being written by Josh Schwartz. Seems like the X-Men may be to Fox what Marvel hopes to get from “The Avengers” crew–a multi-pronged, multi-character franchise. This is the stuff studio heads dream about.

Awesome! I never really followed Deadpool comics but after seeing the X-Men Origins:Wolverine movie it really made me want to see more of his character. I see Deadpool’s character as Wolverine mixed with Spiderman’s wit which is great since he is a meld of two great heroes and should make for a great movie (*cough* at least better than Daredevil).

(teaser if you haven’t yet seen the X-Men Origins:Wolverine…)
I’m still a bit confused about how Deadpool can teleport and shoot lasers out of his eyes (since those are added powers which weren’t in the comics… or at least weren’t used). Also how can he be decapitated at the end?… I assume they will have some explanation about how he comes back for his sequel movie.

Anyhow, as a comic book fan I’m really enjoying all of these superhero movies! (even if they do sometimes deviate a bit from what the fans are used to)
