Date for “Sex and the City 2″

sex and the city movie

Maybe in the 2010 sequel, the ladies will be seen shopping at the Salvation Army.

Mark your calendars, but only in pencil, of course. Variety says that the sequel to last year’s hugely successful “Sex and the City” movie will be released on May 28, 2010.

The main players–Sarah Jessica Parker, Cynthia Nixon, Kim Cattrall, Kristen Davis, and director-writer Michael Patrick King–prove they are not idiots by signing up again to do the sequel. Let’s be blunt here–outside of Cynthia Nixon’s busy career onstage, none of the others have a lot going on. This project pays, will have a comfortable budget, and will get their names all out there. You don’t blow a good gig like this.

So the question is, will this be a “recession reaction” type of story? Or will they decide that their core audience wants fantasy and stay focused on the big shopping, big partying lifestyle of the TV show and the movie. I’m guessing the latter. I guess it’s not SATC if they’re not wielding shopping bags and gushing about expensive shoes (not that I know–I still hold my streak of never seeing one episode of the show, let alone the movie).
