Good news! Daniel Craig has a job!
Hey, you like all-star casts? You do? I knew it! Then you’ll like this one: Deadline brings us news today that Daniel Craig has joined the cast of George Clooney’s “The Monuments Men.”And here’s who else is in the cast: Bill Murray, Cate Blanchett, Jean Dujardin, John Goodman, Hugh Bonneville (the Earl of Grantham!), Bob Balaban, and Clooney himself. Oh, Clooney will also direct and wrote the screenplay with Grant Heslov.
It’s a true World War II story (woo hoo! awesome clothes and hair for Cate!), based on the book by Robert M. Edsel. Here’s the synopsis for the book from Amazon:
At the same time Adolf Hitler was attempting to take over the western world, his armies were methodically seeking and hoarding the finest art treasures in Europe. The Fuehrer had begun cataloguing the art he planned to collect as well as the art he would destroy: “degenerate” works he despised.
In a race against time, behind enemy lines, often unarmed, a special force of American and British museum directors, curators, art historians, and others, called the Momuments Men, risked their lives scouring Europe to prevent the destruction of thousands of years of culture.
Focusing on the eleven-month period between D-Day and V-E Day, this fascinating account follows six Monuments Men and their impossible mission to save the world’s great art from the Nazis.
I read about this in another book on art forgery, I probably should read this book…
Craig is starring in the tremendously successful “Skyfall” and is booked for two more Bond movies. He’s also up for “The Girl Who Played with Fire,” the sequel to “The Girl with the Dragon Tattoo,” if that ever gets off the ground. This is the only thing he has definitely booked with a start date, though (that’s March 1). You’d think with a cast and story like this, nothing could go wrong, but of course, many things often do.
