There has been a lot of talk about another Austin Powers movies over the years, and Mike Myers is keen to bring back his most-beloved character. But what about his other iconic character of Wayne Campbell, who alongside his buddy Garth Algar (Dana Carvey) had their own show on public access TV titled Wayne’s World?
OK, so they didn’t really, but that was the background of the Saturday Night Live sketch which went onto spawn a massively-successful movie and a mildly-successful sequel. I thought both had their moments of genius.
Carvey would be up for making another Wayne’s World movie, as he told TMZ (via Digital Spy) in New York recently. He said:
“You’re gonna have to ask Mike [Myers]… he’s pretty busy, but yeah… I’d do it if they want. If they want, we can play ‘em in their 50s… ‘Wayne! My prostate’s enlarged’.”
He clearly had his tongue in his cheek but I’m pretty sure Carvey would say yes to another Wayne’s World movie almost instantly. It’s not like he’s had the most sparkling movie career since those days.
It could work, but perhaps too much time has passed. Some things are better left in the past, a past when they were zeitgeist.
