Damon Joins the Bureau

Matt Damon, understandably always looking over his shoulder after all those Bourne movies.
Variety reports that Matt Damon has signed on to Universal Pictures “The Adjustment Bureau.” George Nolfi wrote and will direct. Universal, by the way, is the home of Damon’s Bourne franchise, and Nolfi is writing the next Bourne movie. Keeping the family together, as they say.
The film is described as a “love story with sci-fi overtones.” Here’s the plot:
“Damon will play David Norris, a charismatic congressman who seems destined for national political stardom. He meets a beautiful ballet dancer named Elise Sellas, only to find strange circumstances keeping their sparks from catching fire. Norris discovers forces are at work to keep them apart, and he peels the layers to find out why. The action takes place all over Manhattan.”
I have only one thing to say upon reading that: Please, please, PLEASE let them mean it literally when they talk about “strange circumstances keeping their sparks from catching fire.” Could this be a world where sexual desire actually means pyrotechnics? If so, would the “strange circumstances” be water? A lack of oxygen? Come on, Mr. Nolfi, tell me you’re being imaginative with this one…
Next up for Damon is “The Human Factor,” a true story about how a rugby team on a hot streak helped unite a racially divided South Africa. Clint Eastwood is directing and Morgan Freeman is playing Nelson Mandela. Damon will play the captain of the rugby team, where he’ll no doubt find out that playing rugby is rougher than playing Jason Bourne.
