A movie called D-War, or possibly Dragon Wars depending on which country you live in, was released in 2007. I didn’t see it. In fact, I don’t remember even hearing about it. And then it was released on DVD. And I bought it, and watched it. And I wish I hadn’t done any of the above.
As D-War is a film I didn’t know anything about I approached it with an open mind. It looks spectacular, it’s a Korean film (some of which are fantastic), and the CGI looked good on the cover.
Unfortunately, D-War is one of the worst, if not the worst, movies I’ve ever seen. I sat through the whole thing laughing at the parts I wasn’t meant to, cringing at the parts I was meant to laugh at, and all the while wondering why I on Earth I was still sitting in front on my TV watching this pile of crap.
Some of the CGI is actually well done. But that is the movie’s only saving grace, and it clearly isn’t enough. The story is boring, long-winded, and told in a particularly silly manner. It’s based on a Korean legend but is set in America, and that’s the start of where it all goes wrong.
The acting is atrocious, the dialog stilted and unnatural. Jokes are misplaced, and the ending improbable. There are so many errors and unlikely scenarios throughout the film that it’s become somewhat of a hobby for people to spot them all.
Lastly, there is the fact that D-War seems to be derivative of a whole host of other movies. I noticed elements of Transformers, Lord Of The Rings, King Kong, Crouching Tiger, Jason and The Argonauts, and a load of others that sprang to mind while watching.
If you thought 10,000 BC was bad, and it was, then D-War is worse. However, it’s so bad it’s almost good, and I cannot in all honesty sit here and tell you not to seek out the DVD and watch it. You’ll enjoy it but not for the reasons originally intended.
D-War – the worst movie ever, but also the best movie ever.
