Tom Cruise IS "Jack Reacher."
Hey, remember “One Shot?” The adaptation of Lee Child’s novel starring Tom Cruise as Child’s popular hero Jack Reacher? Well, Paramount has decided to capitalize on that popularity–Deadline says the film has been renamed “Jack Reacher.” It’s all about branding, kids. Think of it as an introduction to the sequel titles: “Jack Reacher: Someone Else’s Gun,” “Jack Reacher: The Stroke of Midnight,” “Jack Reacher: Last Call.” None of these are titles of Child’s novels, but you get the point–they want to make sure that everyone who loves Jack Reacher as a character will have no doubts about when there will be a Jack Reacher movie.
Cruise was a controversial choice for the role because he’s a lot smaller than the large, physically domineering Reacher described by Child. But he’s Tom Cruise, and he’s one of the few stars who can get any movie he wants done, so fans…meet your Jack Reacher, the short and wiry version.
“Jack Reacher” opens on December 21st. Before that, you can see Cruise in “Rock of Ages” starting on June 15th.
