Marvel wants you to notice Clark Gregg in “Iron Man” AND “Thor.”
ComingSoon reports, via Variety, that Agent Coulson, a character who appears in both “Iron Man” and “Iron Man 2,” will also be in “Thor.” Clark Gregg plays Coulson.
The reason for these crossovers of characters from one Marvel film to another is to link the films in preparation for an eventual “Avengers” movie. Case in point is Nick Fury, played by Samuel L. Jackson, who also is scheduled to appear in multiple Marvel films. Fury and Coulson are both part of the Strategic Homeland Intervention, Enforcement, and Logistics Division (S.H.I.E.L.D).
To be honest, I wouldn’t notice if Coulson never appeared outside of “Iron Man,” but I suppose it’s a nice touch, devised to give audience members a little bouncy happy “Hey! I know that guy!” feeling.
“Iron Man 2″ will open on May 7th, and “Thor” is now scheduled for release on May 6, 2011. “Thor” is being directed by Kenneth Branagh, and stars Chris Hemsworth, Natalie Portman, Anthony Hopkins, Rene Russo, Ray Stevenson, Tadanobu Asano, Josh Dallas, Jaimie Alexander, Idris Elba, Colm Feore, Kat Dennings, Stellan Skarsgard and Adriana Barraza.
