Joseph Gordon-Levitt–super friend or super villain?

Last summer when news about the follow-up to “The Dark Knight” began to filter out, Joseph Gordon-Levitt was one of the names people mentioned as a possible cast member. He had just come off a successful collaboration with Christopher Nolan in “Inception,” and his star is still on the rise (despite being in the business since he could speak).

Now it appears that Nolan really is intent on getting the band back together. “Inception” alum Tom Hardy will be in “The Dark Knight Rises” as Bane, and now Deadline says that Gordon-Levitt is in talks to join the cast. Other cast members include Christian Bale (of course) as the Dark Knight himself, and Anne Hathaway as Selina Kyle/Catwoman.

I am not as well versed in the Batman universe as many others are, so I can’t tell you who Gordon-Levitt should play. For those of you (and there are many on Deadline’s commenting section writing this) who note his resemblance to Heath Ledger, no, he will not be playing the Joker. Nolan’s said that the character is not being brought back. I’m pretty sure he ruled out the Riddler as well. So Batman experts, who should he play?
