Christopher Eccleston and Chris Hemsworth will throw hammers and things at each other in "Thor: The Dark World."
A few months ago we heard that Mads Mikkelsen was in talks to play the villain in the “Thor” sequel, “Thor: The Dark World.” Sounded like a good idea, but then Mikkelsen got cast as Hannibal Lecter in the NBC series “Hannibal,” so that didn’t work out. Now Marvel has come up with another European actor who can do the elegantly evil thing vs.Thor–according to The Hollywood Reporter (in an article that is, even by THR’s remarkably low standards, astonishingly error-filled), Christopher Eccleston is in talks to be the one to do battle with Chris Hemsworth, our little Thor.
Eccleston is probably best known as the ninth Doctor Who, but has done plenty of other wrok in film and TV. He was most recently seen in a Big Hollywood Blockbuster in 2009′s “GI Joe: The Rise of Cobra.” He played the villain Destro. He’s probably thinking, “Hey, Hollywood, I can do more than play your bad guys in comic book franchises.” Or maybe he’s thinking, “Just sign the check, Hollywood, cheers.”
Eccleston is said to be playing Malekith the Accursed, a character who debuted in teh “Thor” comic books in 1984. Chris Hemsworth returns as Thor, with Anthony Hopkins, Natalie Portman, Tom Hiddleston, and Idris Elba also back in their roles from the 20111 film. Alan Taylor is directing the sequel, which hits theaters on November 8, 2013.
