Are you the type of person who hears “sequel” and worries about the entire cast of whatever original is coming back? If so, you must be thrilled about the sequel to “Anchorman,” because they’re pretty much getting everyone back. Moviefone reports that Christina Applegate is the latest star of the first movie who has confirmed participation in the sequel. Will Ferrell, Steve Carell, Paul Rudd, David Koechner and Fred Willard are already signed up.
In “Anchorman,” Applegate played the female news anchor who threw the blustery all male newsroom of a local TV station into a tizzy. Now, though, presumably they’ve settled down about that.
Not much is known about the plot since, as director Adam McKay noted, they’re still writing the script. However, Koechner recently told Moviefone that “It’s going to be centered around the next big change in news, after having females at the anchor desk. The next big event in the news was the cable news networks, the advent of 24-hour news.” So maybe it will feature a very tired group of TV news people?
“Anchorman 2″ is set to begin filming in early 2013, with a release later that year.
