Chris Pine to Lead “Mantivities”

Chris Pine and friends will hang out together and make a movie.

Hey, so what’s Chris Pine been up to in between doing the “Untitled Star Trek Sequel” and waiting for that long, lingering Jack Ryan film? It seems like he got together with his friends and wrote a movie. Deadline reports that Pine will star in “Mantivities,” a script he co-wrote with Will Greenberg, Drew Howerton, Robert Baker, Ian Gotler and Tony Liebetrau, or, as we like to say, “Everyone I know.” Michael Patrick Jann is set to direct.

The film is about “a group of friends in their early 30s, all in various stages of permanent adolescence. They get together with the aim of helping one of them grow up.”Just one grow up? Or do they all grow up?

Pine said:

“I couldn’t be happier to begin the adventure of making Mantivities knowing how much fun we all had writing it. Somehow I get to laugh with my friends and call it work.”

That sound you hear is the thunk of everyone who is suffering in a miserable job for low pay right now banging their heads on their desks.

Pine will be seen this summer in “People Like Us” and does a voice in the big end of year animated release “Rise of the Guardians. Then next year he has the “Untitled Star Trek Sequel” and someday the Jack Ryan movie, which currently has Kenneth Branagh on board to direct. Until something else slogs it down and he drops out. By the time they get around to making this movie, Pine will be the same age as Harrison Ford was when he made his last Jack Ryan movie.
