Chris Diamantopolous Heads for “Empire State”

Chris Diamantopolous gets into the heist business.

From the lowest of low comedy to indie action–that’s the route Chris Diamantopolous is traveling. He was just seen as Moe in “The Three Stooges,” and now Deadline reports that he’s been cast in “Empire State,” the heist drama starring Dwayne Johnson, Liam Hemsworth, and Emma Roberts. Dito Montiel is directing.

The film is based on a true story from the 1980s about two friends who steal a massive amount of money from an armoured truck company. Diamantopolous will play “a mob boss who thinks the two friends might have committed the caper even when the rest of New York thinks it was a major criminal conspiracy.” Hemsworth plays one of the friends who commits the caper; Johnson is the detective who’s out to crack the case. Roberts, of course, plays a love interest for Hemsworth.

Diamantopolous is currently filming “The Black Marks,” a comedy that also stars Kurt Russell, Jay Baruchel, Matt Dillon, and–surprise!–Terrence Stamp. This is also a “one last heist” movie. I’d like to see a “this is our second to last heist” movie.
