Cher’s been busy in Vegas.
Wow, if I was going to make a prediction about tonight’s story, it would not have been “Cher cast in two movies.” But it is.
Variety reports that Cher will be making her first onscreen appearance in ten years with her role in “Burlesque,” a musical that will star Cristina Aguilera. And yes! Cher will sing! Do you believe, indeed.
In the movie, “Aguilera will play an ambitious small-town Iowa girl with a big voice who comes of age in a neo-burlesque club on Sunset Boulevard that’s run by Tess (Cher), a former dancer who struggles to keep the club open and gives the young girl a chance to shine.” I’m assuming it will also be about Aguilera stripping pretty far down and dancing around a pole. I’m not sure how far Cher will go. But if you’re going to have a “girl with a big voice” smackdown between the two leads, I think Xtina might need to worry a little bit. After all, Cher is strong enough and she doesn’t think you are.
But wait, more Cher news! Variety also says that Cher will be part of the voice talent for “Zookeeper.” It’s a live action movie set, well, in a zoo. Well-known actors will provide the voices of the zoo animals who try to teach a hapless zookeeper how to win the woman of his dreams. Cher will play a giraffe, Jon Favreau a bear, Sylvester Stallone a lion and Judd Apatow an elephant. Nick Nolte’s in negotiations to voice a gorilla. Jim Breuer, Faizon Love and Bas Rutten are also in the voice cast. Kevin James and Rosario Dawson are playing the human leads (I think; at least that’s what Variety implies).
So there you go. A sudden flurry of Cher news. It never rains but it pours.
