Charlize Theron To Produce, Probably Star in “Murder Mystery”

Charlize Theron and her new short hair will produce "Murder Mystery."

Charlize Theron has so far dominated the movie scene this summer. Well, dominated as much as anyone not in “The Avengers” can dominate. She’s starred in two solid box office performers in “Snow White and the Huntsman” and “Prometheus,” and has had the tabloids in a tizzy this week as she showed off the buzz cut she got for “Mad Max: Fury Road,” which is finally getting ready to film in Africa.

Now Deadline reports that Theron is adding producer to her schedule, with another movie role likely as well. She’s agreed to produce and is in negotiations to star in “Murder Mystery,” a comic mystery written by James Vanderbilt. John Madden is set to direct.

The film is described as ““an affectionate deconstruction” of an Agatha Christie tale involving comedy, action, and mystery around an American couple abroad.” Sounds like it could be good, or could be a complete disaster. It probably is best off in the hands of a Brit like Madden–who also, by the way, has been having a good year with the art house hit “The Best Exotic Marigold Hotel.”

They’re looking for an early 2013 start for this.
