Catherine Keener will be one of Mark Ruffalo's exes, it seems.
Casting! Deadline reports that Catherine Keener has joined the cast of “Can a Song Save your Life?” Mark Ruffalo and Keira Knightley star as a couple who come to New York to make it in the music business, then he dumps her when he makes it big. Keener will play “Cassyl,” the estranged wife of Ruffalo’s down-on-his-luck music producer character. Hailee Steinfeld and Adam Levine also star.
The always great Keener was recently seen in “Peace, Love & Understanding” and just finished filming the Somali pirates drama “Captain Phillips” with Tom Hanks, where she plays the title character’s wife. Two wife roles in a row? Keener’s mostly been underused by mainstream Hollywood. Luckily, she’s one of Charlie Kaufman and Nicole Holofcener’s favorites and has gotten some of her best roles in their films. She was supposed to be in Kaufman’s “Frank or Francis” but sadly that’s been postponed, if it’s not dead completely. Sigh.
