Casting News: Alessandro Nivola To Egoyan Film, Anton Yelchin to Jarmusch

By Kirsten Anderson Casting

Alessandro Nivola is going to Memphis.

Two bits o’ casting news today:

The always underrated Alessandro Nivola has joined the cast of “The Devil’s Knot,” Atom Egoyan’s take on the West Memphis Three case, about three men imprisoned for years for a triple homicide despite a trial which presented no serious evidence against them (this has been famously detailed in the “Paradise Lost” documentaries). In Egoyan’s dramatic take on the story, Nivola will play Terry Hobbs, the stepfather of one of the young victims, who has long been suspected in the murders, but has never been charged. His relationship with his wife Pam (played by Reese Witherspoon) “forms the backbone of the story.” Good for Nivola–he deserves more high profile roles. Colin Firth also stars.Nivola will next be sen in the “Untitled Sally Potter Film” with Annette Bening and Elle Fanning.

Meanwhile, back in fiction land, Anton Yelchin has signed on to “Only Lovers Left Alive,” a Jim Jarmusch film with Tilda Swinton, Tom Hiddleston, Mia Wasikowska and John Hurt. It’s “the story about a centuries-long love affair between two star-crossed vampires.” Please let this be the only vampire story announcement of the week. Yelchin has been filming the “Untitled Star Trek Sequel” and then also has an adaptation of Dean Koontz novel “Odd Thomas” coming up.
