Cage Match: Nic Ready for Another Go Round with Director Sena

Nicolas Cage, busy guy.

Variety reports that Nicolas Cage has signed on to star in Season of the Witch for director Dominic Sena. Cage previously worked with Sena on Gone in Sixty Seconds. This is the 9,054th film role Cage has booked for this year. No one else in Hollywood is working except for Cage.

Here’s the plot: Cage will play a 14th century knight who’s charged with transporting a girl accused of being the witch who caused the Black Plague. Good lord, that sounds awful. Are we sure this isn’t an Uwe Boll movie? Bragi Schut Jr. is taking responsibility for the screenplay.

Cage and Sena must have hit it off and wanted to work together again because of personal friendship. It can’t be because Gone in Sixty Seconds cried out for a reunion–it was awful and I don’t think it made much money. I like Cage, but he needs some help differentiating between A and B pix. You don’t have to take every part, Mr. Cage. And be careful of the ones you turn down–remember, he originally had the role in Darron Aronofsky’s The Wrestler that now has Oscar talk buzzing around Mickey Rourke.
