Would you put Harrison Ford in charge of your elite military academy? Yes.

Rumored, now confirmed–Variety reports that Asa Butterfield (“Hugo”) has signed a  deal to star as Ender in “Ender’s Game.” The adaptation of Orson Scott Card’s scifi novel is being directed by Gavin Hood. Word now is that their seeking Harrison Ford to join the cast.

“Ender’s Game” is about “a gifted young gamer (that would be Ender) with an almost preternatural capacity for strategy and logistics who is recruited by the government to help battle an insect-like alien race.” Ford is being considered for the role of Colonel Hyrum Graff, the Commander of Training for the International Fleet, an elite boys’ military academy. Reportedly Viggo Mortensen had been the first choice, but that broke down during contract talks.

Ford could use a hit. He was in “Cowboys & Aliens,” one of the year’s biggest busts, though he’s hardly to blame.  His previous movies, “Morning Glory” and “Extraordinary Measures” also didn’t do well. At least “Ender’s Game” has a built in following so it wouldn’t be a total bust. Come on, someone give Ford a role in a decent movie. After a stellar mid-period of his career, he’s not closing well. He deserves better.
