‘Butch Cassidy & The Sundance Kid’ Remake With Travolta and Cruise?

Butch Cassidy and The Sundance Kid

Butch Cassidy and The Sundance Kid is a classic movie first released in 1969. It’s an American Western starring Paul Newman and Robert Redford and it did brilliantly well at the box office and won multiple Academy Awards.

And it could be about to get a remake starring John Travolta and Tom Cruise in the lead roles. I kid you not.

According to Pop Eater, John Travolta revealed:

“Someone came up with a good idea – it was a remake of ‘Butch Cassidy and The Sundance Kid’ – and there was a rumor that we were gonna do that, and I said to Tom, ‘It’s not a terrible rumor, it’s not a bad idea.’”

OK, so it’s hardly Travolta confirming a remake is on the way but it’s an interesting concept to ponder at least. It’s not the worst idea I’ve ever heard but it’s also not the best. Especially as this is a film that really doesn’t need a remake.

Then there’s the fact that John Travolta and Tom Cruise are two of the most prominent Scientologists in the world, so I can’t help thinking there’d be some hidden references included in the rewritten script. And that, quite frankly, would ruin it.

I have one thing to say about this. NO remake. This is a classic. Don’t touch it.

Butch and Sundance can only be Clooney(Butch),and Pitt(Sundance). There deadpan banter and facial gestures in “Oceans’ 11″were so reminiscent of Newman and Redford,it was downright uncanny. Also, they’re both at the height of there careers, still “young” enough(it ‘s Hollywood, how old’s anybody out there.)and they’re so damn amiable.
