Brosnan, Cage to Haunt Polanski’s Ghost

Nicolas Cage Ghost Rider

Nicolas Cage: Ghost Rider to Ghost Writer?

The MTV Movie Blog reports that Pierce Brosnan and Nicolas Cage are taking the lead roles in Roman Polanski’s adaptation of Robert Harris’s The Ghost.

Harris’s novel is a political thriller about a British prime minister who hires a ghost writer to write his memoirs. The ghost writer discovers information about the PM that could blow up into a scandal. He then must balance his commitment to his subject and threats to his own safety. Brosnan will play the prime minister and Cage the ghost writer (I know…I’d rather see the reverse, too).

Supposedly most of the action will take place in an “oceanfront house in the middle of winter.” Wow, in England? Chilly. Brosnan and Cage will be lobbying for a scene shift to Hawaii.

All of these fellows are in the news lately. Polanski is the subject of the sympathetic documentary Roman Polanski: Wanted and Desired, that premiered at Sundance this year and then was released in May. Cage seems to have been cast in a lot of things lately, most notably Werner Herzog’s planned remake of Abel Ferrara’s The Bad Lieutenant, but then again, has he ever really gone through a slow period? I don’t think so (btw, this is the second time I can think of where Cage has been cast as a writer–the other one is Adaptation). And Pierce Brosnan…okay, not much about him at the moment that I can recall other than I saw his name mentioned in a New York Times article last week about Hollywood types making attempts to buy environmentally sound houses while not giving up too much luxury. Good for you, Green Mr. Brosnan.
