‘Britain’s Got Talent’ Winner George Sampson Biopic?

Last year saw mobile phone salesman Paul Potts become an opera singing sensation over night after winning Britain’s Got Talent. Within months, Potts had released his first album, and there were rumours of a Hollywood movie being in the making based on his rags to riches story. Prepare to sense some deja vu.

This year saw 14 year old George Sampson emerge as the winner for his dance routine in the rain despite suffering from a spinal condition which made him go temporarily blind last year. Now, not only is the song used in his routine on it’s way to number one in the British music charts, rumours are flying about of a movie biopic to be made. Surprised?

Producers have apparently approached George’s agent (he works fast, the final was only on Saturday) about the possibility of turning the film in to a Billy Elliott style boy who has a dream ad beats the odds kind of thing.

An insider told The Sun newspaper:

“They reckon George’s story could be a perfect follow-up to Billy. There are a lot of similarities.”

Seeing as it’s been a full year since Potts won and the movie seems to be nowhere closer to being made, I doubt whether this will ever come to anything, and if it does, it’ll probably take a few years to come to fruition. By then however, Sampson is likely to have been forgotten, and we’d have all moved on to the next reality television star experiencing their five minutes of fame.
