Long-time readers of At The Movies will know that I’m not the biggest fan of movies aimed squarely at females, especially middle-aged females. I may be approaching middle-age but I’m not a female. So Sex and The City can go away, The Women can perpetually sit in obscurity, and Bridget Jones, well she can well and truly get stuffed.
Unfortunately, not content with already having inflicted two Bridget Jones movies on us, Variety is reporting that Working Title is currently developing a third. The as-yet-untitled Bridget Jones 3 is currently thought to be in the early stages of development, with production not set to begin until the end of 2010.
Helen Fielding wrote the Bridget Jones column for The Independent newspaper and then The Daily Telegraph. They were then turned into the two novels and then movies beloved by all women of a certain age. However, Fielding did write extra columns for The Independent in 2005 and 2006, which are what the new movie will likely be based on.
These later columns see Jones in her 40s and trying to have a baby before it’s too late. Renee Zellweger is reporting to be reprising the part of Bridget Jones. So, that’s another yo-yo diet for Zellweger to go on, and another hormonal, mid-life crisis movie we’ll all be subjected to then. Joy.
