The last "Twilight" poster is as dreadful as all the others.
I’ve been curious about how “The Twilight Saga: Breaking Dawn Part 2,” the finale of the franchise, would do at the box office. Obviously the series has been a huge success and had a strong fan base, but it has felt in the last year or so like it’s been outpaced by other things, namely “The Hunger Games.”
It’s hard for something to remain as hot as “Twilight” was, especially when the fan base is made up of always fickle teens, who grow out of trends quickly. The Harry Potter movies went on for a long time, but had the benefit of a fandom that started when they were very young and remained loyal as they grew up with the characters and the books; the outpouring of excitement for the final film was tinged with more than a hint of nostalgia. I haven’t been sure if there would be any sentiment like that to carry “Twilight.”
But it seems like there are still plenty of fans out there who have been eagerly awaiting the last film in the franchise. On Monday, the first day of advance sales, “Breaking Dawn Part 2″ sold $1.17 million, while “Part 1″ sold $626,000 on its first day. That’s a whopping 87% higher, putting “Part 2′s” day one ahead of “Part 1′s” three day total. . Additionally, more than 25% of the tickets sold were for “The Twilight Saga Marathon” shows, where all of the film’s in the franchise will be shown on November 15th in advance of the premiere of the last one.
So if you’ve been saying to yourself, “Oh, I’m sure it will be easy to pick up some tickets for the Twilight Marathon on the day of the show; no one cares but me,” well, you’re wrong. You might want to get on that, like, now.
“The Twilight Saga: Breaking Dawn Part 2″ will be released on November 16th. Bill Condon directed, with Robert Pattinson, Kristen Stewart, and Taylor Lautner starring.
