Brad Pitt Goes on Odyssey, Brings Moneyball

Brad Pitt feels at home with Homer.

Well, well, well, isn’t Brad Pitt a busy fellow these days? According to Variety, Pitt’s production company, Plan B is teaming with Warner Brothers to produce a version of Homer’s The Odyssey, with Pitt hopefully taking a starring role. Meanwhile, Columbia is working on an adaptation of the bestselling baseball how-to Moneyball, also with an eye on Pitt starring.

The Odyssey is of course the follow-up to Homer’s The Iliad, and of course Pitt starred in Troy, an adaptation of The Iliad directed by Wolfgang Peterson. George Miller is attached to direct The Odyssey. And by the way, don’t expect to see another sword and sandals epic–the plan is to move the story of Odysseus and his journey home after the Trojan War to outer space. Okay…Well, just because it’s set in outer-space doesn’t mean Pitt can’t find some way to show up in a toga and sandals, along with a sword.

Moneyball, written by Michael Lewis, deals with Oakland As GM Billy Beane and his use of (at the time) unorthodox statistical methods for constructing contending teams on a shoestring budget. Steve Zaillian is set to adapt. Pitt would presumably play Beane. I can’t wait to hear Pitt talk about win-shares and VORP.

Pitt’s a busy guy. He has Oscar-bait The Curious Case of Benjamin Button opening before the end of the year and is currently shooting Inglorious Bastards for Quentin Tarantino. He’s also, as you may have heard, part of a supercouple that is alternately much-maligned and much worshipped. How does the man ever do it all? He must have a maid. Or at least a butler.
