Bond Casting: Amalric in as Bad Guy

Amalric Mathieu

Look out, Bond, it’s your nemesis du jour!

Well, Bond 22 is supposed to begin shooting today in London, it’s a month behind schedule, so why not actually finish casting the movie?

According to Variety, Mathieu Amalric has been cast as the villain in the latest Bond movie. Amalric is currently winning praise for his starring role in The Diving Bell and the Butterfly, where he plays a French fashion editor who suffers a stroke that leaves him completely immobile except for the ability to blink one eye. (If you haven’t seen this movie, by the way, please do–it’s extraordinary.) Amalric has has mostly worked in his native France, but US audiences may have previously seen him in Munich and Marie Antoinette.

In other Bond news, Jeffrey Wright, who played CIA agent Felix Leiter in Casino Royale will be back for 22. The producers have also stated that they’re almost ready to cast the female lead and will do so within the next two weeks. Did I mention that they’re supposed to start filming today and are already a month behind?
