‘Blade Runner 2’ Script On Way

‘Blade Runner 2’ Script On Way

Blade Runner is one of the best films of the twentieth century, and an iconic take on a dystopian society. So how do you fancy a sequel? If you’re of the same mind as me, you would have immediately shouted “NOOOOOOOOOO!” at the top of your voice. If not, then you need to be taken out the back and shot like a lame dog.

Luckily, a sequel isn’t being planned, at least in any official capacity, but according to Slashfilm, a screenplay is currently being written by Travis Wright, the man behind the current box office topping Eagle Eye. The site received an email from a reader that stated:

“I recently attended a Q&A session with one of the writers of ‘Eagle Eye’ after a free screening organized by the magazine Creative Screenwriting. During the Q&A, the writer said that he and whomever it was that helped him co-write the ‘Eagle Eye’ screenplay were in the process of writing a sequel to Blade Runner, and had already contacted the producers of the original, etc., etc.”

This has since been confirmed by a second person at the event. John Glenn has been named as the second party but has stated that he is no longer involved in the project. Which means that Wright is currently beavering away on a Blade Runner 2 sketch that will likely (hopefully) never see the light of day.

Blade Runner is right at the top of my list of films that should never have a sequel. It works on its own, and a second film would completely belittle the impact and ending of the original. If Wright sullies the memory of a film as great as Blade Runner, then a lot of us will find it hard to ever forgive him.
