“Big” News: Noth to Return for “Sex and the City 2″

Chris Noth and Sarah Jessica Parker in 2008’s “Sex and the City” movie. Trying to think of a witty comment…trying to think…I got nothing, folks.
Variety reports that Chris Noth will reprise his “Mr. Big” role in “Sex and the City 2.” The film is, of course, the follow up to last year’s successful big screen translation of the TV hit. Director Michael Patrick King and stars Sarah Jessica Parker, Kristen Davis, Kim Cattrall, and Cynthia Nixon are also returning for the sequel.
There’s no surprise about the eager returns. The unexpected hit movie made so much money that the group–who had harangued, hesitated, and haggled their way into the first movie-couldn’t sign up fast enough. The only real question, I guess, was whether there would be a place for Noth in the second movie’s story. And I guess there is.
These are good times for Noth, who is often known more for his appearances in the gossip columns than his acting roles. But being in “SATC” put him back on the big screen radar, and he quickly nabbed a role in “My One and Only,” the upcoming romantic comedy based on George Hamilton’s memoirs that stars Renee Zellweger. He also got good reviews as a hardened politico in last year’s off-Broadway play “Farragut North.” He’s heading to LA to do the play again there.
I admit I never watched “Sex and the City” on TV and never saw the movie, so I’m not sure what the signing of Noth signifies for the plot of the movie. I know enough to guess it will somehow involve a romantic roller-coaster for Parker’s character. Are they married? Are they not? I don’t have a clue. And to be honest, I don’t really care, but I know many others do…so it’s news.
