Russell Brand’s career seems to have faltered. Get Him To The Greek was average at best, saved only P. Diddy’s cameo. And Arthur? Well, apart from the fact the original still stood up to scrutiny and didn’t need remaking, it wasn’t very good. And Brand’s limitations as an actor were laid out bare. He essentially plays the same character (himself) in every film. Method acting this ain’t.
This means various projects Brand was previously attached to no longer involve him. Take Rentaghost, for example, which Kirsten reported on late last year. According to Deadline, Brand is out and Stiller is in.
Rentaghost is a strange choice to for a movie. It’s a British kid’s TV show that I grew up watching. But I never imagined there would be a big-screen version. Rentaghost tells the story of a company which hires out specters for hauntings and the like. Stiller will play an American consultant brought in to turn the failing company’s fortunes around.
The idea is to create a new Night At The Museum-style franchise, which is why the writers of that series, Tom Lennon and Robert Ben Garant, are also penning Rentaghost. And I have a horrible feeling they’ll accomplish their aims. And I’ll resort to being 6-years-old once more.
