Ben Affleck Tries to “Focus”

Ben Affleck will get to grift.

Ben Affleck may have plenty of attention this week as his latest directing/starring effort, “Argo” opens, but he’s not letting the rest of his career fall by the wayside. Deadline says that Affleck is in talks to star in “Focus,” a script written by Glen Ficarra and John Requa, who will also direct.

The story, um, focuses on “a veteran con man who gets involved with a newcomer to the grifter business. They becomeĀ  involved romantically but that becomes perilous in a business where they lie and cheat for a living. The complications of the encounter haunt them when they meet up again in the future.”

The original plan had been for Ryan Gosling and Emma Stone, who had worked well together in Ficarra and Requa’s “Crazy, Stupid, Love” to star in this one, but that’s not happening. Word is that Affleck is just about ready to sign and they’re considering female leads.

Got any ideas? I’ll throw out Mila Kunis, the new “sexiest woman on earth” or whatever the guy’s magazines call it. She’s got a comedy background and she’s young (newcomer to the business, the plot description spec’d) but not creepily young. Why not? Other ideas welcome.
