Wake up, Ben.
The Hollywood Reporter brings news that Ben Affleck will star in The Town for Warner Bros. Affleck will also direct. And he’s rewriting Peter Craig’s adaptation of Chuck Hogan’s novel Prince of Thieves. Hey Ben, other people need jobs, too.
THR describes the film as a “dark heist-romance hybrid.” The story involves The story involves “a high-tension love triangle between a female bank manager, a longtime thief who stole more than her heart and an equally smitten FBI agent trying to bust the crook and his gang before they can pull another big job.”
So is Ben playing the thief or the FBI agent? And will Casey take whichever part Ben doesn’t want?
This all sounds very nice, sounds like it has some great roles in it, hope it works out fine, blah blah blah. But here’s my other question? What’s up with the title change? The Town? Is this a joke? Is there anything less evocative of the plot as described? Why don’t they just call it The Door? Or Paper? And what was wrong with Prince of Thieves? Were they worried people might get it confused with Robin Hood? Isn’t that the point? I remain confused about this one. And I Remain Confused About This One is just as helpful a title for this plot as The Town.
Busy Ben can be seen in the upcoming He’s Just Not That Into You and State of Play. He’s currently filming Extract for Mike Judge.
