Bayer Gets “Nightmare”

It’s okay, Freddy, you can tell people Samuel Bayer is directing the “Nightmare” remake.

According to The Hollywood Reporter, Samuel Bayer has been selected to direct the ”reboot” (oh, that word) of the ’80s horror classic “Nightmare on Elm Street.” Platinum Dunes and New Line are producing.

The original “Nightmare” was directed by horror godfather Wes Craven. As for Bayer? Actually, he’s a highly acclaimed director of commercials and music videos. Let’s check out his website. Well, it looks like Mr. Bayer will be making his narrative film debut with “Nightmare”; his only previous feature was the Green Day concert film “Bullet in a Bible.” As for music videos, he’s done a lot for Green Day, also Metallica, My Chemical Romance, Sheryl Crowe, Justin Timberlake, and wow, he did the classic Nirvana video, “Smells Like Teen Spirit?” I know, I’m abusing the word classic today, but that is a serious classic. No other word for it. So I’m impressed.

Bayer is also booked for a film called “Fiasco Heights,” but no word on whether that’s still on, whether it will be before or after “Nightmare,” anything like that. And now with a director in place, I guess casting will soon follow. Mr. Depp, what can we do to get you to make an appearance?
