By Kirsten Anderson Casting

Indie darlings.

There was little new at the specialty box office this weekend, just Lynn Shelton’s “Your Sister’s Sister” and “Woman in the Fifth” starring Ethan Hawke for narrative features and two docs, “Marina Abramovic: The Artist is Present” and “Something from Nothing: The Art of Rap,” directed by Ice-T. Here’s how the money came in:

1. Something From Nothing: The Art Of Rap (Indomina) NEW [157 Theaters] Weekend $150K, Average $955

2. Your Sister’s Sister (IFC Films) NEW [13 Theaters] Weekend $117K, Average $9K

3. Woman In The Fifth (ATO Pictures) Week [9 Theaters] Weekend $37K, Average $4,109

4. Marina Abramovic The Artist Is Present (Music Box Films) NEW [2 Theaters] Weekend $10,989, Average $5,495, Cume $16,235

Last week’s opener, “Safety Not Guaranteed” expanded from 9 to 47 theaters with good results: $295,000 for a $6,277 average and a new total of $438,505. [Numbers from Indiewire]

Meanwhile, both “The Best Exotic Marigold Hotel” and “Moonrise Kingdom” continued their successful expansions.

Both placed in the regular box office top ten. So if you’re looking for breakout indie hits, well, you’ve found them.

Next week: “To Rome with Love,” Woody Allen’s follow up to his biggest box office success, “Midnight in Paris.” The reviews have been bad to terrible so far. You win some, you lose some.
