If you were planning to spend April 19th watching Ashton Kutcher play the young Steve Jobs, well, you’re going to have to make other plans. Deadline reports that “jOBS” has cancelled its planned 4/19 release; no new date has been set.
Word is that they felt there wasn’t enough time do the proper publicity campaign and generate the necessary buzz to get the film off to a good start. Yes, of course, they should wait until the Ashton-Demi divorce case blows up the gossip pages even more; that will be some free pub.
“jOBS” is directed by Joshua Michael Stern and written by Matthew Whiteley. The film focuses on “the major moments and defining characters that influenced Jobs covering the years 1971-2001.” It was the closing night movie at Sundance, where it got a mixed reception; I think most people were okay with Kutcher, but just felt the script and overall movie wasn’t very strong. Well, now they have time to clean it up–if that’s possible.
