Anvil rocks on.
F. Scott Fitzgerald famously said, “There are no second acts in American lives.” But how about Canadians?
MTV’s Splash Page reports that Anvil, the Canadian ’80s heavy metal band is making an appearance in Seth Rogen’s “The Green Hornet.” Anvil was almost completely unknown until the release of the acclaimed documentary about their career, “Anvil! The Story of Anvil.” Now they’ve parlayed their new found fame into a veritable relaunch, such as opening for AC/DC on their recent tour, and of course the film appearance where they supposedly perform in ”a scene that featured them exploding on stage at a rock club. ”
Wow. Going from the local bar band who never quite made it to exploding in a major motion picture. That’s pretty impressive.
For those of you not familiar with “Anvil!” it’s simply a documentary about an aging band that’s refused to give up, even as the major success they’d hoped for in their younger days eludes them. Locked in with the same style as when they first started out, the band can easily be dismissed as Spinal Tap’s real life, less successful cousins. But the doc has a sweetness and sincerity about it that makes viewers stop smirking. And now there’s Oscar talk.
Anyway, I guess the moral of this is, “Better late than never,” and “Never give up.” Or something heartwarming like that.
