Anthony Mackie in Talks for “Captain America: The Winter Soldier”

Anthony Mackie may join the Marvel club.

The Captain America sequel got a title this weekend at Comic-Con, and now it may have a major cast member. According to The Hollywood Reporter, Anthony Mackie is in talks to join the cast as Sam Wilson, aka the Falcon.

Wilson began to work with Captain America in the 1970s. He was the first African-American mainstream superhero. He got the ability to fly from a special suit and could communicate with birds. Though the plot is being carefully guarded, as always, it seems likely from the title that this is related to a storyline from the 2000s that “resurrected Captain America’s sidekick Bucky as a brainwashed super-assassin known as the Winter Soldier.

Mackie was most recently seen in “Abraham Lincoln: Vampire Killer” and will be on the big screen this fall in “Gangster Squad.” He’s got “Pain and Gain” and “Runner, Runner” coming out in the next year.

“Captain America: The Winter Soldier” stars Chris Evans and will be released on April 4, 2012.
