Aniston, Bateman are in “The Baster”

Jason Bateman, undoubtedly disappointed that The Baster is not about cooking turkeys.

According to The Hollywood Reporter, Jennifer Aniston and Jason Bateman are set to star in “The Baster.” Will Speck and Josh Gordon, of “Blades of Glory” fame, are directing Allen Loeb’s adaptation of Jeffrey Eugenides short story.

When I first saw the headline about Bateman and Aniston in a movie called “The Baster”, I quickly got my hopes up that it would be a horror movie about a killer who bastes his victims while roasting them over a spit. Unfortunately, I was wrong. Instead the romantic comedy is described this way:

Bateman and Aniston will play best friends Wally and Kassie. When Wally learns that Kassie plans to become pregnant through artificial insemination, he replaces the donor’s semen with his own and must live with the secret that he is the father of her child.

Wow, that’s a comedy…? Aside from the fact that it just sounds dreadful, to me at least. But Eugenides is a good writer, so maybe there’s something more to it than we’re getting from the description? Good heavens, I certainly hope so. Well, it does sound kind of weird and creepy; maybe it really is a horror movie.

I could care less about Aniston, but you know I’ve always loved Bateman and don’t want to see anything derail his recently reborn career. Make sure you really want to do this, Jason–it’s another pregnancy movie. I’m just saying.
