‘Anchorman 2′ Was To Be A Musical

Anchorman

Anchorman 2 isn’t happening. Unfortunately. Paramount nixed the project at the beginning of May because it couldn’t see how the film sequel was going to make any money. But if it had happened, then it could have taken the form of a musical. Maybe.

No. Surely not. If this is true then I’m absolutely gutted, even more than I already was at hearing Anchorman 2 had been canned. If this is a wind-up not to be taken seriously then why does Adam McKay tease us in such a way?

Adam McKay, who co-wrote and directed the original Anchorman, told Chud:

“It was a musical. We were going to do four months on Broadway and then jump right into filming.”

I think he’s kidding. But still, an awesome idea.

McKay also explained why Anchorman was canned in the first place. Paramount apparently does computer modeling of potential profits on films, and couldn’t see how Anchorman 2 was ever going to cover its $60 million budget. Yeah, whatever.

Is there any hope of it still happening? In a word, no, with McKay stating “We’ve moved on.” I guess us fans should do the same. As disappointing as that is.
