American “Inbetweeners” Film in the Works

Coming to America.

“The Inbetweeners” was a hit British TV series. “The Inbetweeners” movie was a huge hit in British theaters. So what do you think that means? Of course, the US is making its own version. According to The Hollywood Reporter, Paramount has hired Iain Morris, creator of the TV series to write and direct the American take on the movie.

Here’s a twist, though–the actual British movie will also be released here on September 7th. So if in September, you find yourself enjoying “The Inbetweeners,” you’ll surely want to enjoy it again with American accents! But you’ll be used to that after giving the MTV version of the TV series a try (I guess the movie will star the kids from the MTV series…?).

If you’re not familiar with the TV series–and I’m not, I’ve just read about it–it’s about four uncool teenagers struggling to get through high school. ComingSoon says the movie has the characters “go on their first vacation to Greece in search of high times and wild sex – with no parents, no teachers, no money, and little to no chance with the ladies.”

It’s possible that the American movie may be retitled to avoid confusion with the British version. That may depend on how well the TV series will do, I would think. If it’s a hit, they’ll want to keep the title, redundancy be damned. If it’s not, well, let’s just start over.
