American Film Institute’s Movies of the Year

By Kirsten Anderson Awards

"Les Miserables" takes its turn on a "best" list.

Another list! Now we have the American Film Institute’s list of their ten favorite, or best films. Alas, they don’t rank them in order of preference, or give any individual awards–it’s just a ten film list in alphabetical order. Hey, AFI, why don’t you just give a trophy to every movie that came out this year! (Just kidding!)

You could say that this list is a roundup of the 2012 usual suspects, with “The Dark Knight Rises” the only one that hasn’t made an awards splash elsewhere.

Here’s the list:

ARGO
BEASTS OF THE SOUTHERN WILD
THE DARK KNIGHT RISES
DJANGO UNCHAINED
LES MISÉRABLES
LIFE OF PI
LINCOLN
MOONRISE KINGDOM
SILVER LININGS PLAYBOOK
ZERO DARK THIRTY
