After ‘Speed Racer’ - Silver and Guy Ritchie In For DC Comics ‘Sgt. Rock’

Speed Racer, the Joel Silver produced, Wachowski Brothers directed film based on the Japanese cartoon from the 80s, opened last week, and has so far failed to light up the box office, due mainly to the success of Iron Man. It has also failed to win over the critics, and has had some abysmal reviews so far.
So obviously Joel Silver is looking ahead, and recently spoke to AICN about the film, as well as future plans. He’s just made RocknRolla with Guy Ritchie, and obviously enjoyed the experience so much he’s looking to work with the Lock, Stock director again quickly.
The film in question is Sgt. Rock, to be based on the DC Comics army infantry leader created by Robert Kanigher and Joe Kubert in 1959. He said:
“I’m going to make that. I’m going to make that very soon. With Guy Ritchie, I think,”
“I hope [that Sgt. Rock will get made]. I remember at one point it got close. I mean, there were a lot of people attached to Speed Racer. They never got that close,”
Guy Ritchie is an interesting choice, as I kind of have him pigeon holed to only be good at directing British based gangster movies. How he’ll treat Sgt. Rock, who led a fictional World War II US Army infantry called Easy Company in various publications, should be interesting.
RocknRolla , the first of a trilogy of films, is due out on September 19th in the UK.

The Wachowski bros certainly put a lot of effort into making Speed Racer… but the movie overall looked and felt like a cross between anime, a kaleidoscope, that Flintstones movie, a video game and the Dukes of Hazard
