Adults Love Kid’s Films Like ‘Shrek’

Shrek

As a kid, I naturally loved kid’s films. You wouldn’t really expect any different. But what’s strange is that even though I long ago changed into an adult (although my girlfriend would likely disagree), I still love kid’s films to this day. And I’m not alone by any stretch of the imagination.

There’s something inanely fun and frivolous about some kid’s films that make them perfect weekday evening fodder for people of all ages. There are some days when you really can’t be bothered to try and get your head around the plot twists and dark subject matters that are in most modern-day thrillers. So why not watch Shrek instead?

According to Digital Spy, OnePoll recently surveyed 3,000 adults about what kid’s films they liked. The top ten was as follows:

1. Shrek
2. Pirates Of The Caribbean
3. Finding Nemo
4. Toy Story
5. Harry Potter And The Philosopher’s Stone
6. The Lion King
7. Mrs Doubtfire
8. Monsters Inc.
9. Ice Age
10. Wallace And Gromit: Curse Of The Were-Rabbit

No surprises there really, especially with the inordinate amount of CG animated features such as Toy Story and Ice Age. These films are made with such style and panache that they transcend age classification. The sometimes slightly risqué humor also helps.

It’s telling that I’ve seen all the ten films above, with most of them also having a place in my extensive DVD collection. Does this mean I need to grow up?
